Business Integrity was founded in 2000 to commercialize online contract creation technology, with its origins in Artificial Intelligence research projects at Imperial College, London and Edinburgh University.
Focus
We focus exclusively on the processes of creation, delivery and organization of on-line contracts/agreements that are legally safe. We enable lawyers to capture their legal know-how of contracts and make this reusable by other lawyers and non-lawyers. Our value proposition is that legally safe contracts, from the simple to the complex, can be produced simply, in a fraction of the time taken by traditional drafting methods. We do nothing else.
Standards
Zero negative impact on IT infrastructure has always been our aim. Since 99% of the World’s lawyers use Microsoft Word, our product, DealBuilder, is Word-based with Web delivery. It is fully compliant with all major standards and has configurable application interfaces for exchanging data with other applications.
Development Strategy
Our objective was to develop a product set that would be completely trusted by lawyers. For historical and structural reasons the large London law firms have made the greatest investment in standard forms and master precedents of contracts which lend themselves to automation. In addition, 4 of the 5 largest global law firms are based in London. Business Integrity wished to meet the needs of the most exacting legal clients and therefore initially based itself in London within walking distance of these firms. This gave us two advantages: 1. We were able to incorporate firms such as Clifford Chance and Linklaters as part of our extended design and test organization, 2. We could employ RAD/JAD (rapid application development/joint application development) techniques to evolve, through multiple iterations, a product that matches customer requirements with maximum precision.
Support
Our first principle is to ensure that we release highly stable products through extensive and exhaustive testing. Our clients will testify to the fact that in 5 years, product reliability or stability issues are virtually non-existent. Hence support requirements are almost exclusively related to ‘how to use’ questions. To address this we deliver structured and well documented formal training, self-install software, telephone support and on-site implementation assistance. Marketing Strategy
Our first objective was to obtain the seal of approval from major law firms to confirm DealBuilder’s capability to produce legally safe documents. This has been endorsed by our customers Baker MacKenzie, Clifford Chance, Freshfields, Linklaters, Allen & Overy and other global law firms. The second objective was to obtain the technical endorsement of major technology companies. This has been achieved by the use of DealBuilder in mission critical applications by Microsoft, CISCO, Reuters, Amazon and others.
Having reached these 2 milestones we are now focusing on selected vertical sectors in finance and banking.
Product Strategy
We believe that the interests of our customers and of the company are best served by improving on what we already do well. In the future we will make it even easier to generate safe contracts, to structure know-how into master contracts and to organize the creation process. We will only develop new products that augment these processes.
